extended care
For Adolescents in Orange County
For adolescents still in development, life’s transitions are challenging. For those in early recovery, they can be consequential. Extended care for adolescents in Orange County allows boys and girls in early recovery to continue the structure, education, healing, and accountability that they have experienced at inpatient or primary residential treatment for recovery that sustains.
what is extended care treatment for adolescents?
Sustain Recovery provides an Extended Care setting for boys and girls that is gender-specific, structured, and nurturing. Extended care allows adolescents to continue the progress that they have made in treatment, building deeper roots in recovery and reducing the potential for relapse.
The Extended Care program begins as residents arriving from a higher level of care are enrolled in our off-site Partial Hospitalization Program or Intensive Outpatient Program (PHP/IOP) — depending on the recommendations of their prior program and our team. They are welcomed into our community, and assigned an individual counselor and individual therapist that will help them adjust to Sustain Recovery.
These experts and our wider team then continue to guide each boy and girl in our care through the continued process of identifying and healing the underlying causes and conditions behind their substance use, co-occurring mental health disorders, and negative behavior patterns.
The path of each individual resident will vary based upon the client’s arrival to the program and the Continuing Care Plan from their prior facility. Sustain Recovery is committed to following the recommendations of these plans, and will continue the link to that program, regularly updating each client’s care team and encouraging clients to stay in touch when appropriate.

extended care vs. sober living
Extended Care is not just a sober living environment. It offers far more resources and — subsequently — far greater outcomes for adolescent boys and girls. What sets Sustain Recovery apart?
Our home is fully licensed with the California Department of Social Services to provide quality care to adolescents suffering from substance use disorder and other co-occurring disorders. This allows us to provide highly individualized care that assists the specific needs of each resident.
Sustain Recovery boasts a staff-to-client ratio of one to three, and a maximum of six residents per house. Clients get an unparalleled level of support and care.
We provide a safe, structured, and affordable Peer Supportive Recovery Residence for adolescents to maintain a meaningful and fun life without drugs or alcohol. At the same time, our day treatment program provides all residents with medical and psychiatric services, individual resident guidance, life skills training, individual therapy, counseling, group therapy, family therapy, school, and additional educational and vocational training. Involvement in a Twelve Step program is mandatory and Sustain Recovery is a Twelve Step, abstinence-based home.
With the support and safety net of the Sustain Recovery staff and community, our residents have a structured schedule that applies the same degree of structure as residential treatment, allowing them to continue integrating the necessary, healthy living skills needed in the real world.
